Diamond Nexus Simulants vs Cubic Zirconia
You want a stone that looks, feels, and acts like a diamond… but is also affordable, eco-friendly, and conflict-free. You’re not alone. And, we’re willing to bet that Cubic Zirconia is probably the first diamond alternative popped into your mind. But, is Cubic Zirconia your best option?
Clarity of the Stone
Cubic Zirconia is much more pourous than a mined diamond. This means that, over time, a Cubic Zirconia will absorb dirt and oils causing it to turn cloudy.
Diamond Nexus Simulants are however coated with a proprietary Sapphire (Corundum) coating material to eliminate porousity, so your Diamond Nexus Simulant will sparkle forever.
Hardness of the Stone
Now for a little chemistry – The Mohs scale is used to measure hardness of materials. A Diamond is a 10 on the Mohs scale. The hardest Cubic Zirconia is around 8.0 but a Diamond Nexus Simulant ranges from 9.1 – 9.2. What does this mean? Our simulant is much harder than CZ making it look and act much more like a Diamond than a Cubic Zirconia.
Chemical Composition of the Stone
A diamond is made out of pure, crystallized carbon. A Cubic Zirconia stone is made out of zirconium oxide which is just zirconium and oxygen. This means that a Cubic Zirconia contains no carbon. A Diamond Nexus Simulant contains carbon along with 9 other elements making it, chemically, much closer to a diamond than a CZ.
Most CZ jewelry sells for VERY low prices (like $100 or less). This is because a vast majority is made on an assembly line using low-cost composite metals. At Diamond Nexus we set all of our stones in jewelry quality metals hand-crafted by world class jewelers. So not only do you get an amazing stone but that stone will be displayed in some of the most beautiful settings in the world.
